Street dog found sleeping on trash cans keeps hugging rescuer

A Good Samaritan in Missouri knew he needed to get help when he saw a dog lying on a pile of garbage for a few days in a row. He called Stray Salvage of St. Louis (SRSL), whose group of heroes quickly came out to rescue her.

The dog was first noticed by SRSL rescue manager Donna Lochmann. According to Lochmann’s statement to The Dodo, «When we arrived she was still rummaging through the trash because she was hungry, and we could see she was skinny.» At first, the dog didn’t see Lochmann, but when she saw him, she started running behind the trash can.

Lochmann was aware that she would need to earn the puppy’s trust before she could save him. She then retrieved some treats, first taking into account that the dog was hungry. Lochmann said: «She was very receptive to sausages.» However, she walked past the food and immediately approached me when I knelt down and offered her one. her, rather than nibbling on the food offered to her. It looked like she was asking, “Are you here to help me?” Lochmann added.

Lochmann put a leash around the dog’s neck and led her to the car after gaining her trust. The rescue can be watched here: Everyone who worked at the shelter fell in love with the dog, whom Lochmann nicknamed “Little Toes,” as soon as he arrived. «She was so nice to everyone in the facility,» Lochmann said. «She was giving everyone a hug.»

Little Toes only spent a day and a half at the shelter before being placed in foster care, but during that short time, she made it a point to show as much love as possible. Little Toes is taking care of her new adoptive parents and her dog brother these days. Now that she is in a loving temporary home, her sweet personality is exploding more and more each day. Even though his SRSL friends miss his hugs, they are happy to hear that Little Toes will never go hungry again.
