Men taunt their sister who inherited an old barn, money falls on her when she walks in — Story of the day

After the death of her grandfather, Alice was shocked to learn that he left everything to her brothers, despite being very close to her. However, after visiting the old barn she inherited, she came across something that would change her and her family’s life forever.

Alice is the only daughter of her parents and has two older brothers, Jake and Ashton. His parents both worked on cruise ships in their youth, which led them to travel extensively.

Alice’s parents wanted some stability for their children. So they made a deal with their grandfather, Bill, to have the kids stay with him when they were at work. Alice and her brothers therefore spent a lot of time with their grandfather.

Alice loved her grandfather very much, and over the years they established a strong relationship. This was no ordinary relationship between grandfather and granddaughter, they were true friends. Even after Alice’s parents found employment in the countryside, Alice continued to visit Bill regularly.

Alice discussed everything with her grandfather. He told her about all his adventures and his difficult but joyful life. Alice told him all her dreams and the things she hoped to accomplish in her life.

Unfortunately, Alice’s grandfather ends up passing away. It completely broke his heart and rocked his world. The loss of his grandfather had changed everything in his life.

Alice understood that he had already reached old age, had lived a long and fruitful life, and passed away peacefully, but that didn’t make the pain any easier to bear. Her grandfather had become a friend she could count on, with whom she could chat and laugh.

It was then time for the family to look into Bill’s will. Their grandfather had left most of his possessions to his grandchildren, so the actors in the meeting were Alice, Jake, Ashton and Lawrence, Bill’s lawyer. They sat in Lawrence’s office as he explained to them who would get what.

«How could someone who brought so much light and joy become so cold and lifeless in an instant?»

Jake and Ashton were eager to know what they would receive as they listened to Lawrence read and explain their grandfather’s last wishes.

«Okay. So what did he leave us?» Jake asked impatiently.

«Yes, what do I have?» Ashton added.

«Wait a minute. We’ll get there. I just want you to know what your grandfather left behind. So the estate of…» Lawrence began.

As the words of Lawrence and her brother faded, Alice was overcome with thoughts. She sat stoically reliving the trauma of losing someone close to her.

She thought back to her mother’s bitter cries when the doctor announced that her father was no longer in this world. She remembered kissing him for the last time and thinking, «How could someone who brought so much light and joy become so cold and lifeless in an instant. ?»

Alice still had a lot to deal with, and Lawrence’s office was the last place she wanted to be. She still had a lot of questions. She was glad her grandfather was at peace, but that didn’t make the pain any easier to digest.

«Something like what? You ended up with peanuts, sister. It’s a shame for all those summers spent at Grandpa’s.»

«Alice, did you understand what I just said?» Lawrence asked as everyone stared at her.

«Um…what?» Alice asked, trying to pull herself together and come back to reality.

«I said the house would go to your brothers. Bill left you the barn where his farm was. The farm itself was seized, as you know. However, your grandfather managed to return it independent of the property, so you’ll have access to it even after foreclosure,» says Lawrence.

«Wow! Quite a barn,» Jake said mockingly, while Ashton burst out laughing.

«I would strongly suggest that you try to salvage everything you can. It won’t be much, but if you could at least come to an agreement with the new owners of the land, I’m sure you would be able to get something out of it,» Lawrence says empathetically.

«Something like what? You ended up with peanuts, sister. Such a shame about all those summers at Grandpa’s,» Ashton said before he and Jake burst out laughing again.

Alice, unable to hold back her tears, grabbed her things and rushed out.

«Oh come on, Alice. We just wanted to have a little laugh,» Jake yelled as Alice walked out.

Alice didn’t care what Bill had received. What really affected her was that it made her question her relationship with her grandfather. His brothers had barely shared time with him and didn’t love him as much as she did.

Alice’s grandfather also knew how financially limited she was compared to her brothers. She wished he’d thought about it too. If Alice had inherited the house, she could have at least had a place to stay and not have to pay rent.

The house was not in good condition. It was old and dilapidated. However, if Jake and Ashton did some work, they could make a good profit. Alice, on the other hand, didn’t have much to chew on.

Although she was slightly offended that she had received next to nothing as the only person who genuinely loved her grandfather, she tried not to let it get her down.

«So, what do you say, guys? Can I stay in the house for a bit? Time to settle my situation.»

She was still rich with the memories she shared with her grandfather, and she couldn’t let material possessions erase that. In the end, her grandfather showed Alice he loved her while she was alive; she doesn’t need anything more.

Alice was a hard worker and determined. His financial problems are due to the bankruptcy of his business, which was caused by factors beyond his control. She worked tirelessly to get up, but all her efforts were in vain.

She decided to try to reach out to her brothers. Maybe they would be willing to let her stay home until she recovered. So she could save money on rent and try to pick up the pieces. So she went to Jake and Ashton’s for lunch, but things didn’t go as she had hoped.

«So, what do you say, guys? Can I stay in the house for a bit? Time to sort out my situation,» asks Alice, sitting across from her brothers in a restaurant.

«I don’t know, Alice. I guess you’re asking a lot,» Jake said.

Jake: «Yeah, that’s right. Why don’t you sleep at the barn until you can manage?» Ashton said, clapping his brother’s hands with a mischievous chuckle.

«It’s not a joke, guys. Please, I really need your help. Please!» begged Alice.

«Okay, okay. Enough joking. Here’s what you can do. We’ll let you stay there. You’ll just have to pay rent,» Ashton said deadpan.

«Pay rent? What’s the point of moving here if I have to pay rent?» Alice said.

«I mean, we can try to give you a little family discount,» Jake said.

«That’s a good offer, little sister,» Ashton added.

«Thank you guys. This is family,» Alice said as she got up and walked away.

«It’s this or the barn, Alice,» Jake shouted with a laugh, after which he and Ashton congratulated each other again.

Alice realized that she was really alone now. She was growing tired of thinking about her financial problems. She needed a break. She needed to escape, just for a moment.

Alice decided to go visit the barn. It had been ages since she had been there. There was a time when she and her grandfather spent a lot of time there.

Walking up the old farmhouse driveway, Alice looked out over the vast empty meadows and wondered how things could have changed so quickly. At one time it was a living farm, rich and verdant, teeming with crops. And now, just like her grandfather, she was lifeless and no longer existed.

Alice stopped in front of the barn and went inside. She was in very poor condition. Alice then remembered when her grandfather’s farm was still running.

She played hide and seek with her grandfather in the barn, which bothered his workers, but they could never complain because he was the boss.

Alice laughed as she looked around, the memories flooding back to her. It was then that she understood. Her grandfather had left her more than she could have hoped for. All the memories, lessons, time and love shared were more important than any material possessions he could have given her.

Alice realized that what made the barn valuable were the memories that were there. Looking up at the hayloft, she saw one of her grandfather’s favorite hiding places. She decided to go upstairs to get him one last time.

Alice knew she was a bit silly, but she felt good. As she climbed the ladder, it began to break, knocking her to the ground and dragging down part of the hayloft.

Alice was a little shaken, but she hadn’t hurt herself. She remembered that something had fallen from her grandfather’s hiding place when the hayloft caved in. So she began to search for the object in the rubble. While searching, she came across a black bag.

Alice opened it and what it contained left her speechless. Inside the bag were wads of cash and a note. She said :

«To my dear, loving Alice. If you’re reading this, you’ve found me. I’ve never been good at playing hide and seek.»

I left you this barn so you could revive my bankrupt business. Unlike your brothers, I know you love this farm and me very much. It’s your house. The money I’ve saved over the years should help you get the farm and business going again. I know you are capable of it.

I like you,

Your grandfather.»

When Alice finished reading the note, she was in tears. She wished she had more confidence in her grandfather. But she was also delighted with the chance offered to her. She finally knew he wasn’t really gone. He was always with her. Otherwise, how could she have thought of looking for him again?

That year, Alice devoted all her efforts and all the money she had received to reviving the farm. She bought the farm, closed her business and settled there. After several months of hard work, she finally earned her first salary.

By the time of the next harvest season, the farm was famous and very successful. When his brothers heard about it, they were filled with regret. They had never taken the time to renovate the house they had inherited, and when they wanted to, it was too late.

The house was a dump and they could only get peanuts out of it. To make matters worse, their careers weren’t going too well either. They decided to shamelessly ask Alice for help. However, unlike them, she graciously provided for them and relieved them in their difficulties.

What can we learn from this story?

Greed is never rewarded. Jake and Ashton’s greed eventually backfired. However, thanks to Alice’s kindness, they weren’t left hanging in the end. She treated them as she would have liked them to treat her.

Don’t let circumstances determine who you are and who you will become. Alice could have easily treated her brothers the way they treated her, but she handled the situation with grace and mercy. She could also have given up trying to get her life back together, but she continued to hold on, hoping for things to get better.
