When you reach the age of 90, you have experienced a lot of losses. None of them are easy. However, in the most tender and sad moments, it is a gift to be able to say goodbye.
In this video, a 90-year-old man bids his last goodbye to one of his good friends, who happens to be his neighbor’s dog, a chocolate, age-bleached Labrador.
He and the dog are good friends. And the dog loved it. He brought her cookies every day and she probably enjoyed every visit with her boyfriend. She will surely be missed.
His master was kind enough to allow him to accompany him on deck, even though it is a difficult task. Her love for the man is evident, because even at this hour she greets him wagging her tail, she is so happy to see him.
She spends her last moments lying on the green grass of her yard, with her family nearby, when he walks up to her. Despite his age, he kneels on the floor to rub his sweet belly and show her how much he loves her.
The days of running to him are over. It looks like she can’t stand up anymore. But she is still able to lift her head and manages to beam with happiness that he has come to her. She seems grateful to have him near her.
He gently offers her water from his hand, trying to encourage her to drink. She tenderly licks the water from her palm as her master caresses her, giving her all the comfort he can provide.
This moment is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Saying goodbye to a loyal dog is one of the hardest things in the world. Being able to stay by her side and offer her love and comfort is one of life’s greatest gifts.
