2 shelter dogs became real heroes this Thursday, September 8th. If giving blood is a known practice among humans, it is less so for animals. Yet it saves many lives. The chain of solidarity that was put in place in record time led to the long-awaited happy ending.
Thursday, September 8, the Neovet veterinary clinic operated on a sick dog named Iris. To save her, the surgeon needed a blood donation and therefore called the association Un Gîte Une Gamelle at 5 p.m. as a last resort.
“A dog in very serious condition must be transfused very quickly, it would take 2 canines to try to keep her alive, but we have little time,” explained the caregiver.
The shelter team got organized and thought of 2 compatible and healthy resident doggies, Saiko and Soko.
The volunteers therefore embarked them in their vehicle. “They were super happy to go for a drive,” said Corinne Legrand.
Only at this rush hour, the traffic is heavy in the agglomeration of Perpignan and there was a good chance that they would not arrive in time.
“We had to be there by 6 p.m. So I called the city’s municipal police canine squad and explained the situation to them,» Corinne said.
A chain of solidarity
The police willingly accepted the mission. A screaming siren, the police vehicle escorted the one from the shelter in the North Polygon area to the clinic.
The 2 uniformed officers helped Caroline get the canines out of their transport crate and led them inside the establishment.
“You would have seen how proud our darlings from the shelter were, real police dogs!! They were taken care of quickly, without any stress, ”explained the organization on its social networks before warmly thanking the good Samaritans.
That same evening at 8 p.m., the vet called Caroline to inform her of the situation.
Iris’ surgery was still in progress, but everything was going well now, as Saiko was able to donate blood.
