Introducing a newborn to your pet for the first time can be extremely nerve-wracking. Some dogs may become jealous of the new addition and the lack of attention may not be right for them.
Some dogs may become protective of their new siblings, while others may be indifferent. Yvonne and Eddie Walsh, from Dublin, Ireland, were thrilled to bring their newborn, Nicholas, home, but they weren’t sure how their Chihuahua, Quica, would react to him.
Not knowing what to expect, Yvonne decided to capture the moment on video. She said Quica had been very protective of her pregnant belly for the past nine months. But they didn’t expect what Quica would do next.
In the video below, you’ll see Eddie lowering four-day-old Nicholas to Quica, who instantly submitted to him. She rolled onto her back, showing everyone that Nicholas will be the new boss here.
The couple couldn’t help but smile at Quica’s reaction. Lying on her back, Quica takes a few good sniffles from Nicholas. It’s obvious that she and Nicholas are going to be best friends. The Walsh’s say Quica stands by Nicholas’ crib and watches over him and alerts them whenever he makes a noise or cries.
While she is always around him, she knows how to be very gentle with him and always submits in his presence. Watch the heartwarming scene, below!
