In 5 Months, This Woman did what others could not…

Kayla Denney always knew she wanted to dedicate her life to fighting for animals. She adored them and always cared for them.

However, when she was left in charge of the shelter in Taft, Texas; she knew it would be one of the most difficult and important tasks of her life. The place was a mess and hundreds of dogs were arriving to spend their last days before being sadly euthanized. Telling the difference would not be easy. It was really terrible for her…

Wednesday was the day they ended their lives. It was terrible… awful…

To begin with, there was no electricity in the entire building. There was only one hose to clean the cages. There was only something in large quantities and it is related to the deadly chemical with which they «solved» the problem of the large number of dogs that kept coming. It was just outrageous, but Kayla was the person to make it all end.

The animals looked very sad and poor. Even the building seemed reluctant to do anything. It was time to change.

From her very first day, Kayla met Chief of Police John Cornish and they discovered they had one goal in common: to make the shelter a place where no animal would die. They made a careful plan and since then they have only seen this beautiful dream come true before their eyes. We did everything possible to save them.

All dogs deserve a chance. All animals should live.

Kayla managed to create a network of people willing to fight and fight for dogs. She contacted over 3,000 volunteers who volunteered to provide temporary and permanent housing and many donations. Thanks to social media, you could see the huge change she had in the shelter.

Kayla won the Heroes Anonymous award from the Petco Foundation

This has only inspired more and more people to join in this beautiful transformation. The result is a real success: in the five months that it has been administered, no dog has received the lethal and unfair injection.

Since November 1, we have rescued 565 dogs and cats in Taft.

Kayla receives daily thanks from all furry people, but she has also won some major cash prizes that have allowed her to continue giving her all for her shelter. She has big plans to use these funds to make the dogs very happy.

I want us to have a grassy area where they can play and meet families. It’s not fair that they’re in the cement all the time.

There is no doubt that Kayla deserves this award. Her refuge has become completely unrecognizable thanks to her and the sad expressions of the dogs with a thing of the past.

She shares this note in support of the Taft shelter. No dog deserves to die with an injection without first knowing the love of a family.
